Minion Productions

I have the good fortune to have known Grant and Lunaa, of Minion Productions, thanks to fringe festival touring, for many years. They are both dedicated to helping small, scrappy artists find platforms and expand their work. Minion Productions started co-producing shows at the Rogue Festival in Fresno, California (USA) around 2016, using a gameshow format to promote the artists involved in that festival (myself included). A few years later, Minion expanded their artist support to include filming shows for archival and promotional purposes (one of my shows included), and during the pandemic, expanded further into livestreaming outdoor and socially-distanced performances. The group now offers a range of filming and livestreaming technical support to shows that break out of the proscenium arch - a tricky translation, for sure. I conducted field research with Grant and Lunaa in July 2023, starting in Seattle, Washington and then going to Portland, Oregon (USA) with them. In Seattle, I observed the pair filming an outdoor circus performance; in Portland, I assisted with filming two outdoor, immersive productions. From the Minion website:

'We're a small, flexible organization and we want to stay that way, so we only work directly with a handful of artists at any one time. But we want as many touring indie artists as possible to join us on our forums, such as this website. We hope it will become a stronger resource for everyone!'
