Motion Capture

Wayfinding: Tools > Hardware > Motion Capture

As mentioned in a previous section, motion capture has been the domain of larger film, television, and videogame companies until very recently. VR headsets like HTC Vive and Meta’s Quest (both Pro and 2) can track facial movements like your eyes and mouth, which can be integrated into avatar movements to sync your speaking with lip motion. Controllers track the motion of your hands, allowing broad gestures and some torso-level body movement. HTC also offers a tracker that syncs with the Vive headset to track full body motion, allowing lower quality mocap without a mocap suit. Rokoko mocap suits are expensive for consumers, but at a similar price point to many VR headsets or even videogame consoles, so there are options for mocap suits outside major production studios. There are also some body, hand, and foot straps that can track your motion with a consumer-grade virtual reality headset.
