Game Engines

Wayfinding: Tools > Software > Game Engines

3D worlds are generated by a game engine, with Unreal Engine and Unity being the two most used. There are free versions of these programs to use, along with extensive documentation, online courses, and large user communities, making them simpler to learn than more obscure options. When you choose an engine to build your world, it is important to consider options that have both headset and web-based access. This invites in more audience members, as there is less adoption of headsets. Per Brendan Bradley: ‘by embracing WebVR, we get a much more diverse audience than the VR-native shows’.
